Used as a culinary herb in the far East, especially Indonesia and Thailand. A robust, evergreen perennial plant growing in large clumps with cream flowers in summer above ginger plant-like leaves. Prefers a well-drained, humus-rich soil and a position in partial shade but tolerates full sun and can tolerate some drought. Height 2m. Must be kept frost free.
